We sure could use your help!! The Sci Fund Challenge

Venus flytrap – a charismatic…plant?

As most of you know The Nature Conservancy is a not-profit organization, which means we operate mostly on donated funds and grants.  So if we have an important project we have to find money to fund it, which can be difficult…

…so let me introduce you to the Sci Fund Challenge!  Sci fund is a crowd funding platform that allows scientists specifically to raise money to fund their work.  So what is crowd funding?  Well in this day and age, with social media running many outlets of our lives and work, crowd funding looks to take advantage of social media in an effort to raise money for projects.

With some help from my colleagues I am running a crowd funding campaign through the Sci Fund Challenge platform to raise money for the Venus flytrap.  This is why we need your help!  The idea behind crowd funding is that you share with your social media friends and they share it with theirs and so on and so on…until its a global sensation! (we hope).  The donations are small in a crowd funding campaign but if you get a bunch they add up quick.

So our Venus flytrap project will raise money to do a comprehensive survey of the Venus flytrap population in the Green Swamp preserve.  We want to know where and how many Venus flytraps there are so we can better do our management work.  If we know where they are we will know where we need to do controlled burning.  Also we think knowing where the larger populations of Venus flytraps are in the Green Swamp will help us abate poaching because we will be better able to monitor those populations and intercept poachers before they can decimate a population.

Ok, are you ready?  Click here to see our project page, support our project with your donation (you get a cool gift with your donation), and then share with all of your friends (there is a share button on the page; easy as can be)!

Thank you so much for your support; the Venus flytrap thanks you too!
