Fire in the Lakes Festival, March 24th 11:00 to 3:00

Smokey Bear lighting a controlled burn

OH BOY!  The Fire in the Lakes Festival is only 5 days away!  We are so excited for this years event, it is going to be great!  The weather is forecasted to be perfect and there will be so many exciting things to do at the festival, something for everyone!

The most exciting thing and a real crowd pleaser is the demonstration controlled burn.  The Forest Service will be conducting a small controlled burn on site for spectators!  Such a great opportunity to see the ins and outs of controlled burning!

Smokey Bear will be at the festival along with some clowns for the kids.  Also for kids we will have a craft table, a scavenger hunt, a bouncy castle, and lots of booths with some native live animals!

Possum Creek bluegrass band from Wilmington, will be playing throughout the festival and we will have lots of food provided by local gourmet food trucks.  There will be Ms. Cheesy, Umami, and Trolly Stop Hot Dogs!  There will also be an ice cream truck and a cotton candy and sno-cone guy…again something for everyone!

We are so excited to announce that this year we will have the Creative Flame Company.  They are fire performers and will be doing juggling, dancing, and other circus arts using actual fire!  This you will not want to miss!

We are having 2 raffle drawings at the festival this year.  We will be doing a free raffle!  All you have to do is fill out a short fire survey and you will be entered to win a $25 dollar Wal-Mart gift card!  Easy!  We will also be having a big raffle with three awesome prizes!  First place prize is an all black Electric beach cruiser donated by Two Wheeler Dealer in Wilmington, the second place prize is a 2 hour kayak tour for one on a local waterway donated by The Adventure Company in Southport, and the third place prize is a rain barrel donated by the BSL Garden Club!  Tickets for this raffle will be $1 each or $5 for 6.  Awesome!

Many of our conservation partners are going to participate with interactive booths sharing information about their conservation work in the Southeast Coastal Plain.

The Fire in the Lakes Festival is a family friendly event.  It is this Saturday March 24th at the Boiling Spring Lakes Community center from 11:00 to 3:00, here are directions.  It’s a totally free event so no excuses for not checking it out!   Find us on Facebook for all of the latest updates!  Hope to see y’all there!
